If You’ve Poked a Hole Through Your Collar Point http://sewingsupport.com/blog1/2008/04/28/if-you%e2%80%99ve-poked-a-hole-through-your-collar-point/ http://sewingsupport.com/blog1/2008/04/28/if-you%e2%80%99ve-poked-a-hole-through-your-collar-point/#comments Mon, 28 Apr 2008 22:43:21 +0000 Administrator Oops! http://sewingsupport.com/blog1/2008/04/28/if-you%e2%80%99ve-poked-a-hole-through-your-collar-point/ In an effort to get your collar point nice and sharp, you’ve accidentally poked a hole completely through it. What to do?

Turn the collar inside out. Reinforce the collar point by applying a piece of lightweight fusible interfacing to it. Re-sew the collar seam at the point so that the hole now falls outside of the new seam. Sew a new seam on the other side so that the sides will look symmetrical. Then trim, clip, and press the seam allowances as usual.

Tip for Clipping Seam Allowances http://sewingsupport.com/blog1/2008/04/27/tip-for-clipping-seam-allowances/ http://sewingsupport.com/blog1/2008/04/27/tip-for-clipping-seam-allowances/#comments Sun, 27 Apr 2008 13:15:19 +0000 Administrator Construction Techniques http://sewingsupport.com/blog1/2008/04/27/tip-for-clipping-seam-allowances/
For clipping seam allowances, try using a craft knife instead of scissors. Place the item to be cut on a cutting mat and cut from the seam to the raw edge of the seam allowance. Since you’ll be cutting away from the seam instead of toward it, you’ll reduce the risk of accidentally cutting into the seam.

How to Remove Ridge Marks from Fabric http://sewingsupport.com/blog1/2008/04/26/how-to-remove-ridge-marks-from-fabric/ http://sewingsupport.com/blog1/2008/04/26/how-to-remove-ridge-marks-from-fabric/#comments Sat, 26 Apr 2008 17:28:40 +0000 Administrator Fabric Pressing Oops! http://sewingsupport.com/blog1/2008/04/26/how-to-remove-ridge-marks-from-fabric/
If you’ve accidentally pressed a ridge into the right side of your fabric, try steaming the area (don’t press) and using your fingers or a brush to fluff the area back up. Or try dampening the area with water from a spray bottle (if your fabric can be dampened without damage) and re-pressing it.

Steam Shrink Your Interfacing http://sewingsupport.com/blog1/2008/04/25/steam-shrink-your-interfacing/ http://sewingsupport.com/blog1/2008/04/25/steam-shrink-your-interfacing/#comments Fri, 25 Apr 2008 15:44:08 +0000 Administrator Fabric Construction Techniques http://sewingsupport.com/blog1/2008/04/25/steam-shrink-your-interfacing/

There’s debate over whether interfacing needs to be preshrunk. Some recommend it while others believe it’s not necessary. If you choose not to preshrink your interfacing, steam shrink the piece just prior to application by holding your iron over it and steaming it for a few seconds.
