Sewing Quick Tip:

Stitching Slippery
Fabrics

When stitching
slippery fabrics like
satin or silk, if you
find your fabric
shifting out of
place as you sew
or the top layer
shifting ahead of
the lower layer, try
hand-basting your
fabric together first.
Sewing Quick Tip:

Sewing through
elastic:

Just as you would
with any stretchy
fabric, remember
to use a ballpoint
or stretch needle
in your machine
when sewing
through elastic.
This will help
prevent skipped
stitches.

Sew wheelchair and walker accessories
with this collection of 18 wheelchair and
walker bag patterns gathered from all over
the web.

And after you've sewn your bag and given
it to its recipient, just make sure to advise
him or her against placing heavy items in
the bag or too many items in it at once. A
bag that's too heavy could cause the
walker to become unstable and potentially
tip over.

And consider using a heavier fabric for
your bag like a cotton canvas or even
denim. You'll end up with a more durable
finished bag that will likely last longer. And
when sewing a heavier fabric like this, just
remember to use a thicker denim needle in your sewing machine, which will pierce through your
heavier fabric more easily and without breaking.

If, however, you have your heart set on a lighter-weight fabric for your bag, you can back your
fabric pieces with fusible interfacing for added strength or add a lining to the bag to make it
extra durable (to add a lining, cut the same pieces from your lining fabric as your bag fabric and
just sew the two layers together as if they’re one piece).
