Sewing Quick Tips:
Tip #1: Do any decorative stitching (such as pin tucks) on your fabric first, then cut out your pattern pieces.
This will ensure that the decorative stitching won’t change the shape of your garment and that your finished
item will fit properly.
Tip #2: To remove dense buttonhole stitching (or other dense zigzag stitching) that you can’t get under with the
tip of your seam ripper, try sliding a straight pin underneath the stitching, then carefully cutting through the
stitching across the top of the pin using the tip of a razor blade. (It also helps to do this in good lighting.)
Note: If a project below includes a printable pattern, you’ll see a “p” next to its title. If a project doesn’t include
a pattern template, it likely consists of simple fabric shapes (like squares and rectangles) that you can easily
measure and cut yourself. And note that some projects may be designed for a specific type of sewing machine.
However, if a project you like calls for, say, complex embroidery stitches and you have just a simple zigzag
machine, you can try experimenting with a satin stitch, hand-embroidering a design, or adding purchased
embellishments instead.
