Sewing Quick Tips:
Tip #1: When stitching slippery fabrics like satin or silk, to keep your fabric shifting out of place as you sew or
the top layer shifting ahead of the lower layer, try hand-basting your fabric together first. It can be time-
consuming, but it can save you time and frustration in the long run. And use a silk thread for basting, which
won't leave holes behind in your fine fabric.
Tip #2: If you choose not to preshrink your interfacing, steam shrink the piece just prior to application by holding
your iron over it and steaming it for a few seconds.
Note: If a project below includes a printable pattern, you’ll see a “p” next to its title. If a project doesn’t include
a pattern template, it likely consists of simple fabric shapes (like squares and rectangles) that you can easily
measure and cut yourself. And note that some projects may be designed for a specific type of sewing machine.
However, if a project you like calls for, say, complex embroidery stitches and you have just a simple zigzag
machine, you can try experimenting with a satin stitch, hand-embroidering a design, or adding purchased
embellishments instead.

Dog Bed Tips:
Sewing a dog bed can be a great way to recycle an old sheet or to recycle an old sweater. If
recycling an old sweater, just remember to use a stretch stitch or a small zig zag stitch in your
sewing machine. And if you want the cover of your dog bed to be machine washable, just
remember to preshrink your fabric first (especially if it’s a cotton or cotton blend) so that the
cover will retain its shape after laundering.
