How to Press Linen
To get the best press in linen, use high heat and moisture. To generate moisture, you can use the steam setting on your iron, or you can dampen a press cloth, lay it on top of your fabric, then press to generate steam. Use starch if desired.
And since linen can develop shine when ironed, it’s important to either press it on the wrong side or use a press cloth to protect it from the heat.
And linen shrinks with heat and moisture, so make sure to preshrink your fabric before pressing it – either by steam shrinking it if you plan to have your finished item dry- cleaned or by laundering it.
(Note: Laundering can change the texture of linen. So you may want to test a swatch of it first before washing it.)
