Use a Single-Layer Layout

Doubling your fabric for a layout is convenient because it enables you to cut both the left
and right sides of your pattern pieces out at once. But consider cutting your pattern
pieces from a single layer of fabric if:

Your fabric is very thick and two layers would be difficult to cut through or…

Your fabric is a plaid, stripe, or other print and cutting the pattern pieces from a single
layer of fabric would allow you to more accurately match the design.

Just remember to flip your pattern over for the second piece so you’ll end up with two
opposites instead of, say, “two left sides” of a garment piece.
