And sewing a small stuffed animal can be a great way to use leftover fabric scraps from other projects, or to use any quilting pre-cuts you may have such as fat quarters or layer cakes. And what's great about using quilting pre-cuts is that the fabrics in the bundle are usually color coordinated. Therefore, if you decide to mix and match prints for your plushie, perhaps sewing the body of the softie from one fabric and the arms and legs from another fabric, your fabrics and colors will be automatically coordinated.

If you choose to sew your monkey from felt, consider using a high quality wool felt, which is thicker and more durable than the acrylic felt found in most craft stores. This way, your finished stuffed animal will likely look nicer and last longer (and the felt won't pill).

And since the pattern templates for stuffed animals tend to be quite small, you may want to cut them from a lightweight cardboard instead of paper for greater accuracy. Then trace around your pattern pieces to mark the cutting lines onto your fabric.

And if your stuffed toy will be for a baby or small child, just remember not to embellish the toy with anything that could come off and become a choking hazard (like buttons). Better to embroider the facial features of your plushie like eyes, nose, etc. Also, you may want to stitch your seams twice to give your softie added durability.
