Here you'll find owl softies with big eyes and round bodies characteristic of owls in the wild, some with wings and some without wings. And all designed to be sewn from either woven fabric, felt, or fur (and one from an old sweater).
And sewing a small stuffed animal can be a great way to use larger fabric scraps you have leftover from other sewing projects. And it can also be a great way to use quilting pre-cuts like fat quarters, layer cakes, charm squares. And you can have fun with your design by choosing one fabric for the body of the owl and another coordinating or contrasting fabric for the wings.
If you'll be sewing your owl stuffie from fur, you may find the following tips helpful: Lay your fur out in a single layer instead of doubling it as you normally would with fabric, and with the fur side down. And when cutting your fur, cut into the fabric backing only and avoid cutting into the fur itself. You may also want to cut your pattern pieces from cardboard instead of paper, then trace around them with a pen instead of pinning them onto your fur.
And if you'll be sewing your stuffed owl from felt, consider using a high quality wool felt instead of the cheaper acrylic felt sold in most craft stores. Your finished plushie will probably look better and last longer.
And of course, any stuffed animal would make a great gift for a small child. Just remember that if your owl stuffie will be for a baby or toddler, to not embellish your stuffed animal with anything that could come off and become a choking hazard (like buttons). And if you want your stuffed animal to be washable, just remember to preshrink your fabrics before sewing your softie and to wash out any excess dye.
