Here you'll find a variety of pencil pouches from simple, flat zipper pouches to three dimensional boxy pouches to three-ring pouches that can fit inside a binder.
You'll also find fun novelty pouches and a pencil pouch that can even stand up on its own. Browse these pages and you'll see that a pencil pouch doesn't have to be boring. And, of course, these pouches can store more than just pencils. Use them for pens, magic markers, crayons, scissors, or other school supplies. You can even use them for makeup and cosmetics or any other items that have a long, narrow shape.
And, of course, by making your own pencil pouch, you can size it to suit your needs, making it wider to provide more storage, or longer if you happen to have extra long pencils to accommodate. And by sewing your own pouch, you get to choose your own fabrics. And if you happen to have scraps of fabric leftover from other projects, one of these pouch designs would be a great way to put them to use. And if you're scraps aren't quite large enough for a full pouch, you can sew them together in a patchwork fashion to create fabric pieces that will be large enough.
And one of the simpler, flat pencil pouches would make a good first project for someone just learning how to sew. And it will also enable her to practice a simple zipper installation. However, one of the more complex boxy or novelty designs might be a bit too complex for a beginner to tackle. And if you need your pencil pouch to be especially durable, consider sewing it from a heavier canvas or denim fabric. Or, you can line a lighter weight fabric with fusible interfacing for added durability.
