Toddlers love having something to place and carry all of their little stuff in. And the gift of a cute backpack that's just their size will fit this need perfectly.

And if you want a backpack that'll be quick to make, consider sewing one of the drawstring backpack designs. And if you do choose a drawstring backpack, consider making the straps from a wider material, such as wide ribbon or strapping so that the backpack will feel more comfortable when worn. And because of its simple design, a drawstring backpack can also make a great first project for someone just learning how to sew. And to give your drawstring backpack added durability, consider adding a lining to it by sewing two layers of fabric together. Or, you can use fusible interfacing, bonding it to your lighter weight fabric, to make your drawstring backpack more durable.

And if you need a sturdier backpack, sewing one of the more structured backpack designs might be your best choice, especially if you construct the backpack from a heavy fabric like denim or cotton duck (just remember to use a thicker needle that's made for heavier fabrics in your sewing machine). Also, with a more structured backpack, you'll have the added option of a top flap, a zipper, and/or adding a handle to the top of it for easy carrying when the backpack isn't being worn.

And for a bit of fun and whimsy, consider sewing one of the adorable animal-themed backpack designs. And a couple of these designs can even help you transform a stuffed animal into a backpack!
